Payment receipt & settlement policy.
This page explains how and when Manuka Pay merchants receive funds, what affects settlement timing, and where to find authoritative payout information from Stripe.
Important: The timelines and figures on this page are estimates based on Stripe's standard policies as of the date of publication. Stripe's payout schedule, hold periods, and reserve requirements are subject to change and may differ by account type, region, or risk profile. Merchants should review Stripe's payout documentation and their own Stripe Express account for authoritative and up-to-date information.
How the money flows
When a customer pays through your Manuka Pay payment page, the money follows this path before it arrives in your bank account:
Customer pays
The customer's card or digital wallet is charged via Stripe Checkout. Stripe receives the funds on your behalf.
Stripe deducts its processing fee
Stripe's card processing fee is deducted from the transaction. This is a standard card-not-present (CNP) online rate. Refer to Stripe's current pricing for the exact rate.
Manuka Pay deducts its service fee
Manuka Pay's platform service fee is deducted from the settlement amount. This fee covers your merchant dashboard, QR code infrastructure, and payment page hosting.
Stripe batches and pays out
Stripe aggregates your net earnings and sends a payout to your connected bank account on its standard schedule. Manuka Pay does not initiate, control, or delay payouts — this is managed entirely by Stripe.
Funds arrive in your bank
Your bank credits the payout to your account. Processing times vary by bank (typically same day to next business day after Stripe initiates the transfer).
Estimated payout timelines
The following timelines are estimates based on Stripe's standard policies for New Zealand Express connected accounts. Actual timing may differ based on your account type, Stripe's review of your account, and your bank's processing speed.
Established accounts
For verified accounts in good standing, Stripe typically pays out on a rolling basis. The most common schedule is daily payouts with a 2-business-day delay — meaning payments received on Monday arrive in your bank by Wednesday (subject to public holidays).
New merchant accounts
Stripe applies a longer initial hold for new accounts while your payment history is being established. The first payout from a new Stripe Express account may be held for up to 7 calendar days. Stripe may extend this period based on its own risk assessment.
Manual or custom schedules
Merchants can change their payout schedule (daily, weekly, monthly) or trigger manual payouts from within their Stripe Express account. Manuka Pay does not offer payout controls — these are managed directly in your Stripe dashboard.
Estimates only. Stripe's payout timing is not guaranteed and is subject to Stripe's own policies, your account status, weekend and public holiday delays, and any compliance holds Stripe may apply. Always refer to stripe.com/docs/payouts for current payout schedules.
What can affect your payout timing
Weekends and public holidays
Stripe does not process bank transfers on weekends or New Zealand public holidays. If your payout window falls on these days, it shifts to the next business day.
Open disputes (chargebacks)
When a customer raises a dispute, the transaction amount is withheld by the card network until the dispute is resolved. This reduces your available balance for payout. Disputed amounts are not paid out until the dispute closes in your favour.
Stripe reserve requirements
Stripe may hold a rolling reserve on your account — a percentage of transactions withheld temporarily as a risk buffer. This is more common for newer accounts or those in higher-risk categories. The reserve is released on a rolling basis as transactions age.
Account verification gaps
If Stripe requests additional verification documents and they are not submitted, Stripe may pause payouts until the requirements are met. Your dashboard will show a verification warning.
Stripe-initiated reviews
Stripe periodically reviews connected accounts for compliance. If a review is initiated, Stripe may delay a payout while the review is in progress. This is outside Manuka Pay's control.
Bank processing time
After Stripe initiates the transfer, your bank's own processing time applies — typically same day to next business day, but this varies by bank and account type.
Refunds in the payout period
If refunds were processed in the same payout period, they are netted against your gross earnings before the payout amount is calculated. A large refund in a given period can reduce the payout amount significantly.
What's included in a payout
Each Stripe payout to your bank account represents the net of all transactions settled in that period. Here's how the amount is calculated:
You can view the exact breakdown of every payout — down to the individual transaction level — in the Payouts section of your Manuka Pay dashboard, and export it as a CSV for reconciliation. See the Payouts & analytics guide for how to do this.
Updating your payout bank account
Your bank account details are stored by Stripe — not by Manuka Pay. To update them:
Log in to your Manuka Pay merchant dashboard.
Go to Account → click "Update payout details".
You'll be redirected to your Stripe Express account. Navigate to payout settings.
Update your bank account number. Stripe will verify the new account before the next payout.
Do not update your bank account immediately before an expected payout — Stripe may place a brief hold while verifying the new account. Update details at least 2–3 business days before your next payout is due.
